Hurricanes Earn Hard-Fought 4-3 Win Over Mustangs
DALLAS, Texas – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (9-8, 2-5 ACC) came out victorious with a 4-3 fight over the SMU Mustangs (14-8, 4-3 ACC) on Friday afternoon.
Miami took the opening point after a strong 6-2 win from Antonio Prat and Rafael Segado over Trevor Svajda and Jerry Barton on court two. The Mustangs then took court three, 6-3, over Nacho Serra Sanchez and Jules Garot.
Mehdi Sadaoui and Jakub Kroslak secured the advantage following a 6-3 win against Alex Finkelstein and Krish Arora.
Serra Sanchez started things off in singles with his second ranked win of the season over No. 102 Finkelstein, 6-3, 6-2, on court two. At the top court, No. 113 Prat battled hard but fell 6-1, 7-6 (13) to the No. 1 ranked player Svajda.
On court six, Garot added another point to the board following a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Noah McDonald, before the Mustangs added one on court three over Kroslak, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The final two courts played out, battling for the win. Sadaoui forced a third set with Arora but fell 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 on court five to even the match at three-all. Segado clinched the win for the Hurricanes with a strong 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5) fight over Barton on court four.
The Hurricanes head to Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Sunday.
