Malone, Men’s 4x400 Relay Win Gold at ACC Championships

BOSTON – The University of Miami track and field team closed out the ACC Indoor Championships with a pair of gold medals in the men’s 400m and men’s 4×400 relay Saturday.

Ace Malone became the first Hurricane to win an ACC championship in the 400m as he tied his school record time of 45.41.

In the penultimate event, the men’s 4×400 relay, Malone anchored the Hurricanes’ relay featuring Sean Watkins, George Franks and Dominique Hall to gold with a time of 3:06.80 for Miami’s second-consecutive ACC title in the event.

Franks also earned a podium finish in the 400m as he finished third with a time of 46.01.

The women’s 4x400m relay of Serena Tate, Gabriella Grissom, Nandy Kihuyu and Sanaa Hebron won silver with a time 3:31.10, improving their second-fastest mark in program history.

Adriana Kruzmane earned silver in the women’s triple jump with a distance of 13.11m, the fifth-longest jump in program history as Dominique Johnson placed seventh at 12.80m.

Grissom earned a fourth-place finish in the 800m at 2:03.71 as Natalie Varela finished fifth at 2:04.57.

Lauren Kirby had a personal-best throw of 15.95m in the shot put to earn a fifth-place finish. In the women’s 400m, Hebron and Kihuyu placed sixth and seventh with times of 52.77 and 53.69, respectively.

Ashton Torns earned a point for Miami as he clocked a 6.79 in the 60m to place eighth.

The women’s team placed fourth at the Championships with 62 points, and the men finished sixth with 49 points.

Miami closes out the indoor season with the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, March 13-14.
