Campre Wins ACC Heptathlon Title

BOSTON – University of Miami track and field’s Edgar Campre won gold in the heptathlon to highlight day two of the ACC Indoor Championships on Friday.  

The win marked the second time Campre has won the ACC heptathlon title as the Lisbon, Portugal, native claimed the 2024 championship.

Campre won three of the seven events, running a 7.97 in the 60m hurdles, jumping 7.21m in the long jump and throwing 15.04m in the shot put. He placed second in the 60m at 6.88 and in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.70m. In the high jump, he cleared 1.85m and in the final event, the 1000m, he ran a 2:47.41 to capture the gold medal.

Dominique Hall added a pair of points for the men’s team as he placed seventh in the heptathlon with 5,375 points. In the women’s high jump, Magdaline Campo placed seventh with a clearance of 1.72m.

Ace Malone clocked the fastest time in the men’s 400m prelims, breaking his own school record with a time of 45.41, and George Franks registered the third-fastest prelim time at 46.14 to qualify for the final.

Sanaa Hebron and Nandy Kihuyu qualified for the women’s 400m final after recording times of 52.78 and 53.18, respectively. Ashton Torns clocked a personal-best time of 6.74 in the men’s 60m, solidifying himself in Saturday’s final.

Natalie Varela and Gabriella Grissom closed out day two with qualifying performances in the women’s 800 as Varela ran a 2:05.14 and Grissom registered a time of 2:05.44.

Miami closes out the ACC Championships on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the men’s shot put before the men’s 400m at 1:05 p.m.
