Hurricanes Sweep Women’s Weight Throw Podium on Day One of ACC Championships
BOSTON – The University of Miami track and field trio of Tania Da Silva, Jocelyn Pringle and Calea Jackson swept the women’s weight throw podium to highlight day one of the ACC Indoor Championships on Thursday.
Da Silva sat in fourth place prior to entering the circle on her final throw where she registered a mark of 21.78m to win the ACC championship. The defending NJCAA national champion became the first Hurricane to win the ACC title in the event since Debbie Ajabe in 2020.
Pringle took home silver as the junior recorded the program’s third-longest throw at 21.54m. Jackson recorded a personal-best throw of 21.39m to take home bronze.
Kennedy Sauder earned bronze in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.11m. In the men’s weight throw, Desmond Coleman placed fifth with a distance of 21.28m, improving his fourth-best mark in school history. Heath Vernor improved his fifth-best mark in the event with a throw of 20.57m.
Miami returns to action Friday at 11 a.m. with the final three events of the heptathlon before the men’s long jump at 1 p.m. Action on the track gets underway with the women’s mile.
