Malone Breaks 400m Record on Day One of Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – University of Miami’s Ace Malone record-setting performance in the 400m highlighted day one of the Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday at the Clemson University Indoor Complex.

Malone clocked a 45.43 to finish first among collegiate runners and better Solomon Strader’s record of 45.74 set at the ACC Indoor Championships a year ago.

George Franks and Sean Watkins posted top-five times in program history in the 400m as Franks ran a 45.83 for the third-fastest time and Watkins ran a 46.90, the fifth-fastest time in school annals.

Enrique Borrego improved his personal best in the mile with a time of 4:09.54, the third-fastest in school history.

Heath Vernor won the men’s weight throw to open the day with a distance of 20.34m, improving his fifth-best mark in school history.

The Hurricanes return to the track Saturday at 10 a.m. with men’s weight throw while action on the track gets underway with the women’s 800m at noon.
