Three Hurricanes Earn AVCA All-Region Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three Miami Hurricanes were among those recognized with Southeast All-Region honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon was named Player of the Year, while redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez earned a spot on first team and senior Dalia Wilson picked up her first career regional accolade with honorable mention.

The trio adds to its postseason awards list with the designation, as Heredia Colon and Rodriguez were selected for All-ACC first team honors.

Heredia Colon made the all-region list after leading the NCAA in kills (779), points (881.5), kills per set (6.33) and points per set (7.17) for the majority of the season, while maintaining second in the ACC in aces per set (0.53) and total aces (65).

She also broke the record for all-time career kills with 1,896, while breaking the single season record and was a three-time record breaker for most kills in a match (43).

In her second season playing as a Hurricane, Rodriguez secured her second All-ACC distinction and first first-team selection. She finished the regular season leading the NCAA in total aces (77) and ranking first in the ACC, while fourth in the NCAA, in aces per set (0.60). She also tallied 1,265 assists, good for second in the conference, and earned ACC Setter of the Week three weeks in a row, while also earning Defensive Player of the Week one of those times.

The New York, N.Y., native broke the single season record for most aces in a season and currently ranks sixth all-time in career assists (2,323).

Wilson closed out her career with a stellar senior season, leading the team with 137 blocks, ranking second in kills with 198, hitting .320, tallying 35 aces and 70 digs.

The Manisa, Turkey, native notched the No. 4 spot in the record book for total season blocks.
