Miami Rowing Inks 13

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing program and head coach James Mulcahy on Friday announced the signing of 13 student-athletes who will join the Hurricanes in 2026.

Five rowers – Camila CofrĂ© Lopez, Agostina Manzotti Scolari, Maria Sole Perugino, Samantha Premerl and Felipa Rosas Villalobos – are set to arrive in the spring.

Additionally, eight rowers – Ellen Barnat, Gaia Caterisano, Eleanor Detlefsen, Katarina Eremija, Ashlyn Frey, Lior Onaly-Kelsey, Eliza O’Meagher, and Kensington Ruhl – are set to enroll in the fall.

The class features student-athletes from six different countries.

“This is a very strong group of athletes, and I am confident they will contribute positively to our team on and off the water in years to come,” Mulcahy said. “The staff did a fantastic job assembling this group of signees, and we all really enjoyed getting to know them through the recruiting process. We’re excited for them to get to campus and start this new chapter of their lives. Go Canes!”

Ellen Barnat

Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts

School: Boston Latin School

About: A Boston native and a member of Community Rowing Inc., Barnat will join the Hurricanes ahead of the Fall 2026 semester. She was part of the U17 8+ that won gold at the Royal Canadian Henley and posted a top 15 finish with the 1V8 at the Head of the Charles earlier this year.

Gaia Caterisano

Hometown: Cernobbio, Italy

School: ITES Caio Plinio Secondo

About: Caterisano, who will join the Hurricanes next fall, knows plenty about Miami rowing: her sister, Sara, is already competing for the Hurricanes. Gaia has experience in the 2-, 4-, 8+, 4+ and has posted seven Italian championships. She is a member of the SocietĂ  Canottieri Lario club in her native Italy.

Camila Cofré Lopez

Hometown: Valdivia, Chile

School: Instituto Principe de Asturias

About: CofrĂ© Lopez, who hails from Valdivia in Los Rios, Chile, is set to join the Hurricanes this coming spring. She has experience in the 1x, 2x, 2-, 4x, 4-, and 8+ and competed in the U23 World Championships earlier this year. In August, she posted multiple gold medal finishes at 2025 Junior Pan American Games, including in the Women’s 8.

Eleanor Detlefsen

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

School: Lane Tech College Prep

About: A native of the Windy City of Chicago, Detlefsen will start her Miami career during the Fall 2026 semester. A member of the Chicago Rowing Foundation, she earned recognition as her club’s most improved novice during the 2023-24 season and she has brought home a series of gold medals including in the U17 8+, U17 4+, the 2V8+ and 1V4 at the Midwest Championships and in the 1V8+ at the Milwaukee River Challenge. Her aunt, Anna Detlefsen, was a varsity rower at the University of Texas.

Katarina Eremija

Hometown: Belgrade, Serbia

School: Sportska Gimnazija

About: Eremija, who hails from Serbia, will be joining the Hurricanes next fall. She was a part of the Serbian Rowing Federation and was part of both the senior national champion 4x and junior national champion 4x this year.

Ashlyn Frey

Hometown: Westport, Connecticut

School: Staples High School

About: A native of Connecticut and a member of the Saugatuck Rowing Club, Frey is set to join the Hurricanes in the fall of 2026. She was a part of the club’s U17 4+ boat that placed first at the US Rowing Youth Nationals Regatta in 2024. That same year, she posted a third-place finish at the Head of the Charles. With Ready Set Row, Frey won RowFest in the U23 4+, placed second in the Youth 8, and placed third in the Youth 4+.

Agostina Manzotti Scolari

Hometown: Corrientes, Argentina

School: Colegio YapeyĂș

About: Manzotti Scolari, who hails from Tigre in Buenos Aires, will join the Hurricanes in Spring 2026. She is a member of both the Club de Regatas Corrientes and the Buenos Aires Rowing Club and has experience in the 2x, 2-, and 4x. She won multiple medals at the Argentinian National Championships in 2024 and 2025 and competed at the South American Rowing Championships earlier this year, finishing fifth in the Senior Four.

Lior Onaly-Kelsey

Hometown: Adair Village, Oregon

School: Crescent Valley High School

About: Onaly-Kelsey, a member of the Rose City Rowing Club, is scheduled to join the Hurricanes in the fall of 2026. A coxswain, Onaly-Kelsey has been a part of two top 10 finishes during her high school career: a second-place finish in the women’s U19 4+ at the Covered Bridge Regatta and a sixth-place finish in the women’s U19 4+ at the Northwest Championships.

Eliza O’Meagher

Hometown: Christchurch, New Zealand

School: Cashmere High School

About: O’Meagher will make her way stateside and join the Miami program in Fall 2026. During her four-year rowing career, she has set two national age-group course records. She has won gold at every Maadi Regatta she’s competed in and earlier this year, O’Meagher coxed the New Zealand U19 Men’s Eight at the World Rowing Under 19 Championships.

Maria Sole Perugino

Hometown: Piacenza, Italy

School: Liceo Linguistico Melchiorre Gioia

About: Perugino, who hails from Italy, will join the Hurricanes in the spring. She has extensive experience on the international stage and has won multiple Italian championships including in the LW2x in 2023. She has also posted first-place finishes in the U23 BLW4x at the 2022 World Rowing Championships and in the U23 at the European Championships.

Samantha Premerl

Hometown: Aurisina, Italy

School: Znanstveni licej – France PreĆĄeren

About: An experienced rower who has competed extensively on the international stage, Premerl will bring her expertise to Coral Gables this coming spring. She is a three-time gold medalist at the World Championships, won 13 high school national championships in her native Italy and has been part of the Italian national team at multiple events.

Kensington Ruhl

Hometown: McLean, Virginia

School: McLean High School

About: A member of the Potomac Boat Club and Virginia native, Ruhl is set to join the Hurricanes next fall. She was the recipient of her school’s Hammer Award as McLean’s fastest varsity rower in 2023 and 2024 and as a freshman, she helped her school earn a third-place finish at the state championships in the Freshman 8. She also posted a seventh-place finish in the 2x at Youth Nationals and a third-place finish in the 4x at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta earlier this year.

Felipa Rosas Villalobos

Hometown: Puerto Varas, Chile

School: Colegio Aleman de Puerto Varas

About: A native of Chile and member of the Club Nautico Viento Sur, Rosas Villalobos is set to join the Hurricanes in the spring. She competed at the U23 World Rowing Championships earlier this year and posted a second-place finish in the BW2x C Final and also had an impressive showing at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games bringing home medals in four different events.
