Heredia Colon Named to AVCA Player of the Year Watch List

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami volleyball senior Flormarie Heredia Colon was selected to the AVCA Player of the Year Watch List, the association announced Wednesday.

Coming off her most successful season in 2024, Heredia Colon picked up her first AVCA All-America honor and was named to the All-ACC First Team. The Dominican Republic native finished the year ranked second in the ACC in kills (525) and points (599.5), while also logging a career-high 30 kills for third most in a match in program history.

Heredia Colon started the year by being named Most Outstanding Player at the UNT Invitational and went on to earn two ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Additionally, she tallied 278 digs, 63 blocks, 37 aces and had a .955 reception percentage.

The Miami standout will be one of 30 women named, with Miami playing six of the 30 women on the lists during its 2025 schedule.

The Preseason Watch List was compiled by the AVCA Division I Women’s Volleyball Awards Committee.  They will also be the group working on this through the additional phases of the Player of the Year process, which include: (a) a midseason addition of players to the list [October]; (b) a list of semifinalists [November]; (c) the announcement of the finalists [likely Dec. 15], and (d) revealing the Player of the Year in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Friday Dec. 19.
