CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes right-handed pitcher Griffin Hugus was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round with the 91st overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Hugus made an immediate impact in his debut season with the Hurricanes, leading the pitching staff with 17 starts — the most of any pitcher on the roster. 

Throughout the season, Hugus posted a 6-7 record and finished with a 4.16 ERA in 93.0 innings pitched. He allowed just 84 hits while striking out 95 batters and walking 35, limiting opposing hitters to a .242 batting average.

Hugus was one of the top arms in the ACC during the 2025 campaign, as the Wellington, Florida, native ranked sixth in the conference in strikeouts, second in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts looking (31).

With the selection, Hugus became the 319th MLB Draft pick in Miami program history, since the draft era began in 1965. He is the 13th Miami Hurricane to be selected in the first five rounds of the MLB Draft over the past five years.

His contributions were instrumental in helping Miami earn its first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2016.
