
Deysel Named ACC Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Miami’s Devoux Deysel was named the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year and 22 members of the men’s and women’s teams were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, the league office announced Friday.
Deysel was a standout in the classroom and in competition as he holds a 3.933 career GPA in data science and won the NCAA championship in the javelin, becoming the first male Miami Hurricane to win an outdoor national championship since Davian Clarke in 1996. Additionally, Deysel became the first student-athlete to win a javelin national championship in Division I and Division I.
At the ACC Championships, he won the javelin for the second consecutive season with a throw of 82.35, setting a new school record while his throw was the 13th-longest in NCAA history.
On the men’s team, Edgar Campre (finance), Desmond Coleman (American studies), Carter Cukerstein (criminology), Aaron Kim (sociology), Ace Malone (criminology), Ashton Torns (business technology), Lance Ward (liberal studies) and Sean Watkins Jr. (public health) garnered the recognition.
Gabriella Grissom (marketing), Sophie Haag (psychology), Sanaa Hebron (psychology), Paisley Hight (legal studies), Erikka Hill (biochemistry & molecular biology), Brittney Jennings (health science), Daphnee Lavassas (international business), Jovana Micic (management), Janay Moorer (exercise physiology), Alyssa Robinson (product design), Maddie Scheier (elementary education), Deisiane Teixeira (liberal studies) and Christina Warren (public health) represented the women’s team.
To be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must have posted a 3.0 GPA for their career and in the most recent semester while also competing in the ACC Championship and/or the NCAA Championship.
