
Deysel Tabbed ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Year
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — University of Miami standout Devoux Deysel was named the ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches, it was announced Monday.
Deysel had a dominant final season as he won the ACC championship in the javelin for the second consecutive season with a throw of 82.35, setting a new school record. His mark ranked as the 13th-longest throw all-time in NCAA history and beat the next closest competitor by 14.60m.
At the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Deysel became the first student-athlete to win a javelin national championship in Division I and Division II as he won with a throw of 81.75m.
He became the first male Hurricane to win an outdoor national championship since Davian Clarke in 1996, and became the first ACC student-athlete to win the men’s javelin title since North Carolina’s Justin Ryncavage in 2006.
