University of Miami Athletics Launches U Standard Initiative
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Athletics has launched its new giving initiative – The U Standard – designed to fuel the future success of Hurricanes student-athletes and ensure that Miami continues to set the standard and compete at the highest levels.
“For 100 years, the University of Miami and the Miami Hurricanes have been defined by an unwavering commitment to excellence and an indomitable spirit of competition,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “As we enter this new era in college athletics, we are more determined than ever to build on that winning tradition. The U Standard will help ensure Miami remains a top destination for the best and brightest student-athletes.”
The U Standard is built on three core philanthropic pillars, each created to help Hurricanes supporters build a foundation of success that extends beyond the field of play.
- Elite Performance and Facilities: Provide Miami student-athletes with world-class facilities and top-tier health and wellness programs, debuting with a $40 million project to expand the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility and add a new Strength and Conditioning Center.
- Canes Beyond the Game: Significantly expand scholarship opportunity for 400-plus student-athletes and empower them for success in the classroom and after graduation.
- Victory Fund: Attract and retain the best talent in the nation and fuel the growth and competitive excellence of all UM programs.
Several lead gifts have fueled early momentum for these initiatives, highlighted by two $5 million commitments—among the largest in UM Athletics history. In total, six gifts of $1 million or more have been secured in response to these key priorities. This includes nearly $15 million in philanthropic support to launch the football facility initiative, as well as a lead gift to modernize the women’s golf facility, operational endowments for the athletic director and head football coach, and the University of Miami’s first-ever endowment dedicated to career development support for student-athletes.
“We are incredibly grateful for the donors who have led the way as we transition into this new era,” said Brian Campbell, assistant vice president for athletics development. “Their generosity provides a degree of certainty as we navigate significant changes in college athletics, and it is instrumental in shaping our next chapter. The U Standard reflects both our aspirations and their unwavering commitment to excellence.”
