Sauder, Coleman Advance to NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — University of Miami’s Kennedy Sauder and Desmond Coleman punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump and discus, respectively, Friday at the NCAA East First Round at Hodges Stadium.

Sauder cleared a season-best 2.18m to earn a spot to the championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Lauderhill, Florida, native cleared his first attempts at 2.05m and 2.10m before clearing his final attempts at 2.15m and 2.18m. Sauder will be making his second appearance at the championships after finishing 15th a season ago.

Coleman placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 57.04m to advance to his first NCAA Championships.

Sauder and Coleman will represent the men’s team in Oregon June 11-15 with Edgar Campre, who automatically qualified in the decathlon, and Devoux Deysel (javelin).

The Hurricanes return to the track for the final day of competition with the women’s discus beginning at 1 p.m. while the women’s 4x100m relay begins at 5 p.m.
