CORAL GABLES, Fla. – All year long, they’ve dazzled in their competitive efforts, reached out to help the community and starred in the classroom.

On Sunday night, they were celebrated in style.

Miami’s athletic department hosted its third annual Hurricane Honors ceremony at the Donna E. Shalala Student Center on campus this weekend, bringing together student-athletes and staff to honor some of the program’s brightest.

Among Sunday’s honorees was sprinter Solomon Strader, who received this year’s Ibis Award, the department’s highest honor.

Strader, a graduate student, is a school-record holder and All-American. He has a 3.76 GPA and is actively involved with several community outreach efforts, including participating in youth track and field clinics, serving meals, participating in a campus bone marrow drive and serving as the president of the Black Student-Athlete Alliance and as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Also honored Sunday was national tennis champion Alexa Noel, who was named the department’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year and former Hurricanes quarterback Cameron Ward, who was named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
