Hurricanes Drop Regular Season Finale

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (9-12, 4-8 ACC) fell, 4-1, to the No. 3 Duke Blue Devils (20-2, 12-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes lost the doubles point and only claimed one singles court in their last match before ACC’s.

On court one, No. 49 Alexa Noel and Raquel Gonzalez fell 6-1 to No. 17 Irina Balus and Ellie Coleman, followed by a court three 6-2 loss from Daria Volosova and Maria Vargas over Emma Jackson and Liv Hovde.

Duke extended the lead after No. 18 Balus took the 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 106 Gonzalez, before No. 15 Noel tallied a point for the Hurricanes when she posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 54 Hovde at the top court.

The Blue Devils then prevailed after back-to-back wins, with Vargas falling 6-3, 6-1 to No. 83 Shavit Kimchi on court five and Volosova dropping court six, 6-3, 6-2, to No. 118 Ellie Coleman.

Miami will stay in North Carolina for the ACC Championships, starting on April 15, in Cary, N.C.
