Hurricanes Sweep Stony Brook, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (8-5, 3-1 ACC) earned its sixth win in a week after sweeping the Stony Brook Sea Wolves (4-7), 7-0, on Monday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes continued their win streak after securing the doubles point and dominating on all six singles courts for the shutout.

Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong defeated Mia Palladino and Elena Lobo-Corral at the top court 6-1 over, before Alexa Noel and Maria Vargas clinched the doubles point following a 6-3 victory over Kristi Boro and Lorin Tilipman on court two.

Volosova secured the 6-1, 6-0 win against Boro at the No. 5 spot, before Noel earned her 100th career singles win after an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Lobo-Corral. Vargas then clinched the win after grabbing the 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mila Charles at the No. 6 spot.

Playing out the match, Nong finished next with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Tilipman, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win from Arai over Bruu-Syversen on court four. Finally, No. 95 Gonzalez took down Palladino, 7-6 (1), 6-2 on court two to complete the shutout.

The Hurricanes will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on in-state rival Florida State on Wednesday, March 19.
