Miami Set for ACC Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Miami Track and Field team is set to begin competition at the ACC Indoor Championship held at the Norton Health Care Sport and Learning Center.

The three-day meet begins for the Hurricanes at 11 a.m. Saturday with the heptathlon as field events begin at 3:15 p.m. with the women’s weight throw and running events begin at 5 p.m. with the women’s 200m.

Last time out, the Hurricanes broke three school records at the Tiger Paw Invitational as Maddie Scheier broke the school’s 20-year-ole record in the mile with a time of 4:45.82.

Gabriella Grissom clocked a 2:03.01 in the 800m to break the school record, improving her time in the event by 1.73 seconds.

The men’s 4x400m relay consisting of Sean Watkins Jr., George Franks, Lance Ward and Solomon Strader ran a 3:06.40 set the school record by .75 seconds set earlier this year.

Josh Jones nearly set the school record in the men’s mile with a time of 4:05.89, just missing by six one hundredths of a second.

Calea Jackson won the women’s weight throw with a personal-best throw of 19.80m, and Strader registered a personal best in the 400m at 46.18.

Caine Stanley (21.20) and Cormac O’Brien (8:21.64) registered the third-fastest times in the 200m and 3000m, respectively, as Christina Warren set a new indoor personal record in the triple jump at 13.00m to finish second.
