
Hurricanes Open ACC Season Victorious
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 30 University of Miami men’s tennis team (6-2) opened conference play with a 4-2 win against the SMU Mustangs (9-7) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point, before battling to take three singles wins for the team victory.
Freshmen Mehdi Sadaoui and Jules Garot defeated Maks Silagy and Louis Cloud on court three, 6-2, before senior Martin Katz and junior Antonio Prat clinched the opening point, 6-2, at the top court against Vikas Deo and Xavier Calvelo.
No. 48 Martin Katz extended Miami’s lead by earning the first singles win with a 6-4, 6-1 score over Georgi Georgiev at the top court.
The Mustangs then tallied two courts after Ofek Shimanov took the 6-3, 6-4 win over Nacho Serra Sanchez on court three and Prat fell 6-1, 2-6, 4-6 to Barton at the No. 2 spot for SMU to tie the match.
Garot battled back to take the 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2) victory over McDonald on court six, before Sadaoui clinched the match after a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against Calvelo.
The Hurricanes are back on Sunday, March 2 to host Boston College at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
