Hurricanes to Compete at Tiger Paw Invitational Friday and Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. — The University of Miami Track and Field team is set to compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday and Saturday in its final meet before the ACC Indoor Championships.

The two-day meet begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the weight throw while action on the track begins at 12:05 p.m. with the women’s 60m hurdles.

Last time out, the Hurricanes competed at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in which George Franks broke a school record and numerous program top five marks were broken. On the meet’s opening day, Franks clocked a 21.02 in the 200m, besting Khamal Stewart-Baynes’ record of 21.17 set in 2022.

Also in the 200m, Sean Watkins Jr., and Caine Stanley set the program’s third- and fifth-fastest times at 21.29 and 21.44, respectively.

Maddie Scheier and Josh Jones set top five marks each as Scheier registered the second-best performance in school history in the 3000m at 9:43.49 and the mile at 4:48.71. Jones improved his mile time to 4:09.12, which ranks second all-time, and had the fifth-fastest time in the 800m at 1:50.18.

Payton Serraglio registered a season-best clearance of 3.77m in the pole vault, to improve her fifth-best mark in program history.

Additionally, the Hurricanes posted four event victories. Helga Sigurjonsdottir won the high jump with a clearance of 5-11.5/1.82m, and Solomon Strader captured first in the 400m with a time of personal-best time of 46.30.

Miami swept the 4x400m relays as Iyonna Codd, Gabriella Grissom, Sanaa Hebron and Janay Moorer ran a 3:34.21 and the men’s team of Watkins Jr., Franks, Ace Malone and Strader clock a 3:08.20.
