S&D Tops Houston on Senior Day, 194-104

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes cruised to a win in their final home dual meet of the season Friday afternoon, toppling visiting Houston, 194-104, at the Whitten Center Pool.

Led by their six-member senior class that was honored in pre-meet ceremonies, the Hurricanes (7-1) dominated the Cougars over the course of the afternoon. Giulia Carvalho, Adrianna Cera, Jane Fitzgerald, Emma Gullstrand, Jacey Hinton and MK Kelley were all recognized prior to the action, and many played a key role in helping secure the victory.

Chiara Pellacani swept springboard diving for the second straight meet with wins in both the 1-meter (335.25) and 3-meter (396.60), and the Hurricanes posted wins in 11 of 12 individual swimming events to improve their home record to 7-0 this season.

The top entry from Miami (7-1) in the 200-yard medley relay – comprised of Leah Treglia, Simone Moll, Ashlyn Massey and Carvalho – set the tone with a first-place time of 1:38.68 to open swimming action.

Cera won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.47) while Savannah Barr (1:47.81) and Sarah Sensenbrenner (1:49.23) took the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle to continue building on Miami’s early point total.

Cera would add a win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.63) later in the meet’s final stages.

A win from Kelley (54.44) in the 100-yard backstroke was followed up by a first-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke from Moll, who touched the wall in 1:00.41. Massey widened Miami’s lead with a blazing time of 1:54.83 in the 200-yard butterfly to take top honors. She also won the 100-yard butterfly (54.16).

Carvalho won both the 50-yard freestyle (22.28) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.18), while Kelley added her second win of the afternoon in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.80).

Miami’s 200-yard freestyle relay closed the meet with the top time of 1:32.81.

The Hurricanes divers will compete at FAU on Saturday, Jan. 18 while Miami’s swimmers return to the pool on Jan. 27 at Florida State.
