Miami Goes 2-0 to Open 2025 Season
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (2-0) went undefeated in the first two matches of the 2025 season after defeating the Troy Trojans (0-2) and the Buffalo Bulls (0-1). Their match with the Trojans also marked Alex Santos’ first win as head coach for team.
Senior Martin Katz and junior Antonio Prat took down Nicolas Simkin and Noah Martens, 6-2, on court one, followed by a 6-4 win from junior Nacho Serra Sanchez and sophomore Leonardo Dal Boni over Yeray Andres Pastor and Thiago Drozdowski.
With only five eligible players taking the court in singles, the Hurricanes matched up against the Trojans tied at one-all.
Serra Sanchez dominated on court three with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Drozdowski to take the 2-1 lead, while newcomer Dal Boni extended Miami’s lead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Henrique de Brito at the No. 4 spot. Prat clinched the match on court two after taking down Martens, 6-3, 6-4.
Later that day, the Hurricanes faced the Bulls and secured another 4-1 win.
Katz and Prat paired up in doubles to take down Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy, 6-1, on court one, as Serra Sanchez and Dal Boni clinched the doubles point over Emiliano Jorquera and Michael Malkin, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot.
Again with only five singles players, the Hurricanes powered through to win the match. Katz grabbed the 6-0, 6-2 win against Mitsakos, while Serra Sanchez beat Mainguy, 6-2, 6-1, and Prat clinched the match on court two with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tang.
Miami will travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to face FAU on Thursday, Jan. 16.
