Dear Canes Community,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We’re already off and running in 2025, which is also the University of Miami’s 100th anniversary. We will be celebrating milestone moments for Miami Athletics throughout the year as part of the university’s centennial celebration. Stay tuned for more details!

Football Posts Best Season in 7 Years

Mario Cristobal’s team finished its 2024 campaign with a 10-3 record, Miami’s most wins since 2017 and a three-game improvement over the previous season. The Canes were State Champs — defeating Florida, Florida State and USF — and posted a perfect 6-0 mark at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Xavier Restrepo were both named consensus All-Americans and Cam finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

It was a massive step forward for the program and we are looking forward to more great seasons to come. Next year’s schedule will be one of the most challenging in years, and we have a fantastic eight-game home slate that features Notre Dame, Florida, NC State, Syracuse and Louisville. We need your continued support! Click here to secure your tickets for the 2025 season!

Larrañaga Steps Down

On December 26, Jim Larrañaga made the decision to step down as our men’s basketball head coach after 13-plus seasons at the helm.

Jim led the Canes to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including our first Final Four (2023), first Elite Eight (2022), first ACC Tournament title (2013), first two ACC regular season crowns (2013, 2023) and four Sweet 16 appearances. We are so grateful for his many contributions to Miami Athletics over the years and for being such an outstanding ambassador for the University of Miami. We will continue to invest in Miami men’s basketball to help elevate the program to even greater heights and in the coming weeks we will conduct a national search to find our next head coach.

Longtime assistant Bill Courtney has taken over as interim head coach and his first home game in charge is Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Florida State. Click here for ticket information. We hope to see you at Watsco Center to cheer on the Canes!

Fall Graduation

Twenty-nine of our student-athletes earned their undergraduate or graduate degrees at the university’s fall commencement on December 12. I am extremely proud of what this group of Hurricanes has accomplished in the classroom. Graduation represents a significant milestone and moment for our student-athletes, and I am excited to see where their life’s journey takes them from here.
