Miami Rowing Closes out Fall Season With Dominant Performance at Head of the Black Warrior River

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Miami Rowing team closed out the fall portion of their season with a dominant performance at the Head of the Black Warrior River Saturday.

The Hurricanes won all three events throughout the day, as numerous rowers put together impressive performances.

“This was a very positive way to finish our fall racing slate,” said Head Coach James Mulcahy. “We have a much deeper team this year, so it was terrific to see the entire team having success across all events today. The coxswains in the fours and eights did a great job navigating a new course during both the head race and the sprint race portions, and the rowers were much improved this year with how they worked together and raced aggressively down the course. Now we’ll get back to work over the winter to ensure we keep improving for spring racing! Thank-you to the Alabama Rowing staff and Athletic department for putting on another great event!”

Miami rowers Paula Espinosa Linares and Candela Martinez Pernas were the winning pairs crew, as they claimed victory in the event.

The Miami A crew of Maria Mastrando, Sara Caterisano, Jovana Stanivuk, Kylie Evenson, and Lauren Bricca won the 4+ event, while the 2- event – Miami B (Cloe Callorda, Aaliah Dawson) were second, Miami C (Layla Jolley and Meg Dumbrell) were third, and Miami D (Naroa Zubimendi and Jane Elsner) were fourth, as Miami swept the top spots over every Clemson and Alabama entry

The Miami 8+ of Zoe Eisenband, Mary Blinn, Holly Prichard, Elle Lafontan, Sabrina Fernandez, Audrey Sears, Samantha Helmering, Melody Royaee, and Jessica Waltzer defeated Alabama’s entry to win the 8+’s event.
