Scheier Captures First Place in Women’s 5K at FAU Invitational, Men Win Team Title
BOCA RATON, Fla. — The University of Miami cross country team completed the FAU Invitational at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton, Fla., Friday evening.
Sophomore Maddie Scheier bested the competition in the women’s 5K, placing first in a pool of 76 runners. Scheier’s time of 17:44.22 is her first first-place finish of her collegiate career and ranks as the seventh-fastest time in Miami’s cross country record book.
In the men’s 5K race, junior Enrique Borrego eclipsed a second-place finish with a new personal best time of 15:26.01 — a 37 second improvement on his 2023 5K time.
Like Borrego, Senior Cormac O’Brien finished in third with a new personal best 15:34.85. O’Brien’s time is a 24 second improvement on his personal best of 15:55.2 a time he ran at last season’s FAU Invitational.
The Miami women’s team placed second with 47 team points while the men’s team finished 1st with 43 points.
Next up for the Hurricanes is the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. on September 7.
