M. Tennis Falls 4-2 To No. 6 Wake Forest
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (10-12, 2-9 ACC) fell, 4-2, to No. 6 Wake Forest (24-4, 9-1 ACC) in a hard-fought battle on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Antonio Prat added his highest ranked win of his career with a victory over No. 36 Filippo Moroni to put the Hurricanes on the board.
Wake Forest dominated in doubles, taking back-to-back courts to clinch the opening point. The top-ranked duo in the country, DK Suresh Ekambaram and Holden Koons, faced Miami’s No. 72 Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet and claimed the top court, 6-3. Following right behind, Luciano Taccuhi and Luca Pow grabbed the 6-3 win over Nacho Serra Sanchez and Yannik Rahman.
Moving into singles, the Demon Deacons kept the momentum and notched consecutive courts to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Saud Alhogbani defeated Sam Baumgartner, 6-2, 6-2, on court six before No. 74 Ekambaram took the top court, 7-6 (2), 6-4, over No. 125 Martin Katz.
The Hurricanes answered with ranked wins on court two and three to battle for the win. Antonio Prat claimed his highest ranked win in his career with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 victory over No. 36 Filippo Moroni on court two, followed by a win from Vladislav Melnic against No. 113 Tacchi, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, on court three.
Wake Forest then clinched the win at the No. 5 spot, with Koons grabbing the 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, victory over Nacho Serra Sanchez.
Miami will return to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for its last regular season match on April 13 to face in-state rival Florida State.
