CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After helping Miami to a first place finish and team points trophy at the Sunshine State Invite last weekend, Miami’s first varsity eight boat was named ACC Crew of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday, April 2.
UM’s boat, comprised of Loran Graves (cox), Stephanie Ferrali, Liane Lopez, Jane Elsner, Constance Stirling, Jovana Stanivuk, Aaliah Dawson, Alyssa Bacchus and Naroa Zubimendi, crossed the line first in the preliminary race and grand final Friday and Saturday in Sarasota, Fla.
The crew crossed the finish line in 6:33.69 in the finals, defeating Iowa, Tulsa, UCF, Boston College, Michigan State, UNC and Drexel. The victory helped Miami to its first-ever team points trophy at the Sunshine State Invite.
It’s the program’s third-ever ACC Crew of the Week honor and first since the 1v8 crew was honored April 11, 2017.
“We’re grateful to be recognized by the ACC and excited to race again this weekend,” head coach James Mulcahy said of the victory.
Miami is back in the water for a split-squad weekend between the Lake Natoma Invite in Sacramento, Calif., and the Miami International Invite at Virginia Key.
