Hurricanes Fall To No. 24 Georgia Tech, 4-3
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 19 University of Miami women’s tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 24 Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Despite the loss, No. 16 Alexa Noel notched her sixth ranked win of the spring season with a victory over No. 45 Carol Lee at the top court to help Miami battle for the win.
Georgia Tech (9-7, 5-3 ACC) controlled the doubles point over Miami (6-4, 4-2 ACC) to start the match. Georgia Tech’s No. 12 ranked duo took down No. 56 Isabella Pfennig and Xinyi Nong, 6-3, at the top court. They followed it up with a 6-3 win from Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach over Antonia Balzert and Leonie Schuknecht on court two.
Singles action was intense from start to finish on every court, going to three sets on five out of six courts. Xinyi Nong evened the score with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win against Kate Sharabura at the No. 6 spot. Georgia Tech then battled to grab back-to-back courts to regain the lead and extend it. On court four, Scarlett Nicholson defeated Leonie Schuknecht in straight set tiebreakers, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7), while Alejandra Cruz battled with Antonia Balzert in three sets, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-2, on court three.
Helping the Canes inch forward, No. 16 Alexa Noel grabbed her sixth ranked win of the dual season with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory against No. 45 Carol Lee. Georgia Tech then clinched the match with a hard-fought 7-6 (13), 1-6, 6-4 win from Kylie Bilchev over No. 69 Isabella Pfennig. To give Miami one more win, No. 107 Audrey Boch-Collins defeated Mahak Jain, 6-7 (8), 6-1, 6-3, on court five.
