Canes Conclude Miami Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team opened the spring season hosting the Miami Invitational this weekend.
The Hurricanes welcomed a trio of competitive teams in No. 3 Texas, LSU and Arizona State to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for the annual invitational.
Day one for Miami kicked off against LSU. Junior Martin Katz claimed a dominate 6-1, 6-0 win over the Tigers’ Julien Penzlin on court two. The other two singles wins came from sophomore Nacho Serra Sanchez over Ben Koch 6-1, 6-2 and senior Adrien Burdet recording a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win over Welsh Hotard.
Miami took on Texas for the second day of competition. Despite not recording a win on day two, Katz forced a third set against the top player in the country, Eliot Spizzirri, after taking the first set, 7-5.
On the final day, the Hurricanes found success in singles action with Burdet, Serra Sanchez and Melnic winning their first sets before play was canceled due to inclement weather.
Miami is back in action on Friday, Jan. 12, when it hosts Georgia Southern at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. First serve against the Eagles is set for 4 p.m.
