Byrne, Hurricanes Break Program Records at Hurricane Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami golfer Sara Byrne played the best 18 holes in program history Monday afternoon, breaking the 18-hole program record with a 63 in the second round of the Hurricane Invitational.
Byrne, a fourth-year junior, totaled eight birdies in the second round and capped her record-breaking 18 holes with an eagle on hole 18.
Overall, the Douglas, Cork, Ireland native paced the field of 69 with a 36-hole score of 129, which ties Dewi Weber for the top 36-hole performance in program history.
As a team, Miami posted a 36-hole score of 556 (-20), which sets a new program record for 36-hole team performance.
Freshman Rebekah Gardner and sophomore Olivia Grønborg each posted two rounds of par-or-better, shooting a 140 (-4) and a 142 (-2) through 36 holes, respectively. Gardner sits tied for ninth among all individuals, with Grønborg following close behind at tied for 14th.
Freshman Aada Rissanen totaled a 145 (+1) through the first two rounds, while freshman Barbora Bujáková carded a 148 (+3).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Katie Carman sits tied for 52nd after totaling a 150 (+6) in the first two rounds.
Miami heads into the final round of the Hurricane Invitational with a seven-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma.
The Hurricanes will tee off at the Biltmore Golf Course at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday.
