Five Hurricanes Tabbed to All-ACC Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team placed a program-record five Hurricanes on the 2023 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league Wednesday.
For the third time in his career, fifth-year senior Franco Aubone earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic team, while graduate student Dan Martin and sophomore Martin Katz were tabbed to the team for the second straight season.
Graduate student Leo Bierbaum and fifth-year senior Juan Martin Jalif were both first-time honorees in 2023.
Aubone will graduate with a master’s degree in accountancy in the summer of 2023. Bierbaum, Jalif and Martin all received their degrees in May.
Bierbaum and Martin completed their master’s degrees in finance and sports administration, respectively, while Jalif earned a bachelor’s degree in political economics.
Martin excelled both academically and athletically this season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship in May.
In his second year with the Hurricanes, Katz once again found himself dominating on the court and in the classroom, posting a 3.8 GPA in both the fall and spring semesters, good for a spot on the Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75+ GPA).
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
