Steele, Sears and Johnson Advance at NCAA East Prelims
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Alfreda Steele earned two spots in Saturday’s quarterfinals at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries.
In the first track event of the day, Steele ran a personal best and Miami’s third-fastest time in program history at 11.22 seconds. Her time was the fifth-fastest time of the day. Freshman Jacious Sears also qualified for Saturday’s event with her personal-best time of 11.37 seconds.
Steele ended the night qualifying for the 200m quarterfinals, running a time of 23.41 seconds and finished third in her heat.
Kayla Johnson was the final Cane to reach a quarterfinal on Saturday, running the fourth-fastest 800m dash time of 2:03.36.
Debbie Ajagbe competed in both the hammer and shot put, registering a personal-best mark of 61.99m in the hammer. The mark ranks as the second-best mark in program history. She ended her day with a mark of 15.92m in the shot, while Selina Dantzler finished close behind at 15.77m. Hannah Hall posted a mark of 15.48m.
The men return to the track for the final running events, including the relays and Jeff Williams, Isaiah Holmes, Russell Robinson and Kevin Snyder will compete in the last field events of the competition.
