WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team continued play Saturday at the ITA Hall of Fame Classic.
The Hurricanes’ two competitors went 2-1 between doubles and singles action at William & Mary’s McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
“Better day overall,” Miami associate head coach Laura Vallverdu said. “We did better out of the gates in doubles and therefore the execution to close the match was there.”
Action opened Saturday morning with doubles play and the Miami duo of freshman Nada Dimovska and sophomore Lucia Marzal logged its first victory together, an 8-5 decision over Gabriela Ana-Maria Davidescu and Luminita Tutunaru of VCU.
Marzal then followed that up with a stellar performance in her singles outing against West Virginia’s Anne-Sophie Courteau, rolling to a 6-3, 6-1 victory. With the triumph, she is now 5-0 on the young fall season.
Dimovska fell just short of a win in her singles contest, dropping a 4-6, 6-2, 0-1 (8-10) decision against Giovanna Caputo of West Virginia.
“Lucia did her job. She was methodical in her way, the way we know she is capable of playing,” Vallverdu said. “Looking for Nada to have a good day of toughness and composure tomorrow. She has to continue to find better tennis and trust the process.”
Miami will be back in action Sunday at 9 a.m. for a doubles matchup against a pair from West Virginia. The Hurricanes then take the court at 10:30 a.m. for singles outings versus foes from Old Dominion.
