Golf Opens Competition in Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team continued its 2019-20 season Friday, as it began competition at the Schooner Fall Classic.

The Hurricanes are currently in 14th place after they fired a first round score of 298 at the par 70, 6,048-yard Belmar Golf Club.

Miami senior Renate Grimstad led the way for the Canes, with an even par 70, carding a trio of birdies on the afternoon. She is currently tied for 10th heading into the second day of competition, and sits just four strokes back on the overall leader Clara Moyano of Mississippi State.

Junior Kristyna Frydlova followed closely behind posting an opening round score of two-over-par, 72, to close out the afternoon tied for 19th.

“Tough day for the freshmen. They need to keep working hard and get some confidence going. Mental toughness is key,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Renni and Kris did great, but it was a tough day overall. There was a three club wind, so it took some good ball striking today.”

Freshman Daniella Barrett, sophomore Anna Backman and freshman Morgan Pankow rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as they tied for 65th (77), 74th (79) and 80th (85), respectively.
