CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team wrapped up action Sunday at the Miami Fall Invite.

The Hurricanes went 3-1 on the day to finish the weekend, which featured just two days of action since Saturday’s matches were canceled due to weather, with a 13-2 ledger that includes an 11-2 mark in singles.

“I think, overall, the girls had a good start to the season. I think we saw some good things,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We still have to work on staying offensive and moving up in the court, taking our chances. I think that’s where we came up a little bit short today.”

Action began Sunday with doubles play and Miami’s lone competing duo, senior Yuna Ito and sophomore Lucia Marzal, earned a ranked win in comeback fashion.

Facing 0-3 and 4-5 deficits against No. 55 Whitney Hekking and Madison Tattini of Utah, the Hurricanes stormed back to earn a 7-5 win, including rallying from a 15-40 deficit in the final game.

Just three Hurricanes took part in singles play, with second-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba recording the first win. The senior from Madrid downed Florida Atlantic’s Natalia Boltinskaya, 6-4, 6-2.

Marzal then registered Miami’s second and final singles triumph of the day by defeating LSU’s Luba Vasilyuk, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

In the Hurricanes’ final match of the weekend, freshman Nada Dimovska came up on the short end of a 1-6, 3-6 result against Madeline Lamoreaux of Utah.

Miami resumes play next weekend, with four players headed to the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight in Orlando, Fla., and three going to the ITA Hall of Fame Classic in Williamsburg, Va.
