Rowing Opens Spring at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami rowing team will open its spring season at the 2019 Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational this weekend.
Four Hurricane boats will compete in three sessions over two days at the eighth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue. Miami is one of five ACC teams in the field at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitation, joined by Clemson, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Virginia, while Alabama, Minnesota, Tennessee, Tulsa, Wisconsin, and Yale complete the list of teams set to race this weekend.
“Everyone is looking forward to finally getting the racing season underway. The team has been working with purpose and has steadily improved,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Now we are looking for them to lean into the racing, as they have with the training, and stay completely focused on what makes theirboats go. If they can do that, and keep learning and improving, then the weekend will be successful and the results they are working for will follow.”
The Canes will race out of Lane 5 in the Saturday morning session, competing against Virginia and Minnesota. Miami’s Varsity 8 will be the first boat in the water at 9:48 a.m., followed by the Varsity 4 at 9:56 a.m., Second Varsity 8 at 10:12 a.m., and the Second Varsity 4 at 10:20 a.m.
Miami returns to the water Saturday afternoon, racing out of Lane 3 against Indiana and Louisville. The Varsity 8 will kick off the afternoon session at 4:44 p.m., followed by the Varsity 4 at 4:52 p.m., Second Varsity 8 at 5:08 p.m., and the Second Varsity Four at 5:16 p.m.
