Rowing Heads to Texas for Longhorn Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team will compete for the final time before the ACC Rowing Championships, racing at the Longhorn Invitational this Saturday.

The Hurricanes have five boats set to compete on Walter E Long Lake in Austin, Texas. Miami head coach Dave Sanderson is looking forward to see his team compete in a field that features Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Virginia, UCF Iowa and Oregon State in the Canes’ final regatta before the conference championships.

“We are excited to be racing some great teams this weekend,” Sanderson said. “It’s another chance to check our speed and develop for ACCs.”

There are four teams racing who are currently ranked in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll: No. 3 Texas, No. 7 Iowa, No. 9 Virginia and No. 18 Oklahoma, while Oregon State is receiving votes. Session 1 groupings were done based on the poll and then conference alignment.

The top two teams from each group will progress to “A” finals for Session 2. The next two teams advance to “B” finals. The NCAA scoring system will be used.

The second fours and novice/3V eights will have a different progression. The winner of each heat plus the next two fastest times will progress to the “A” finals, and the others will move on to the “B” finals.
