Miami Athletics Kicks off Building Women Champions Campaign
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Athletics launched the Building Women Champions campaign Sunday, an initiative that will enhance scholarship support, leadership development and career coaching for Hurricane female student-athletes. The campaign, launched at the 4th annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics, will strive to develop women student-athletes into leaders in competition and in life, and empower them to achieve excellence well beyond their time at UM.
“Sport gives young women confidence and self-worth and it teaches resilience and teamwork,” said Jennifer Strawley, Deputy Director of Athletics, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Woman Administrator. “I have seen first-hand how college athletics changes lives. At the University of Miami, we are committed to creating an environment that encourages our female student-athletes to raise the bar higher and be empowered to be the leaders of tomorrow.”
The Women’s Athletics Leadership Council is an important aspect of the campaign, giving donors a chance to have an impact at the highest level, while also providing mentoring opportunities with our ambitious women student-athletes. With giving levels at $10,000 and $25,000, the Leadership Council members will create transformational opportunities and enhance Miami Athletics’ mission of Building Champions.
“This campaign will serve as a pillar of the Hurricane Club’s funding priorities,” said Jesse Marks, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development. “Our goal in the near future, through the three components of Building Women Champions, is to raise $1 million annually in support of our talented female student-athletes. These funds will go directly to mentor programming, career development and leadership opportunities, which are crucial in our mission of transforming the lives of our ambitious students.”
