CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 13/12 Miami men’s basketball team finishes off a busy weekend at 4 p.m. Sunday when it takes on Navy (1-0) at the Watsco Center. ACC Network Extra has the live broadcast online, while WQAM 560-AM has the radio broadcast.
 
The game is part of a Sunday’s doubleheader, as the 24^th-ranked Miami women’s team takes on Vermont at 2 p.m. One ticket is good for both games. Fans with a men’s basketball game ticket may sit in any general admission location for the women’s contest.
 
Miami (1-0) opened its 2017-18 season Friday evening with a 77-45 home victory over Gardner-Webb. The Hurricanes blew open a close game by going on a 14-0 run to open the second half, while their suffocating defense limited Gardner-Webb to a 31.7-percent shooting effort.
 
Bruce Brown Jr. started off his sophomore season with a great all-around performance Friday, recording his second career triple-double, the third in school history and the 31st in ACC history. Brown scored 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
 
He became just the sixth player in the league’s storied history to record a pair of triple-doubles, reaching the mark at the 5:36 mark of the second half with a field goal for his ninth and 10th points.
 
Miami put five players in double figures in scoring Friday in a balanced effort. Dewan Huell and Ebuka Izundu (14 points each) led the team, while guards Ja’Quan Newton (13), Brown (10) and Lonnie Walker IV (10) also reached double figures. Izundu recorded his first career double-double, as he added a career-high 10 rebounds. Miami out-rebounded Gardner-Webb, 48-36.
 
This is just the second-ever matchup between Miami and Navy. The David Robinson-led Midshipmen took the lone meeting, 78-62, on Feb. 7, 1987. This marks Jim Larrañaga’s first career game against Navy.
 
Navy scored a 71-62 home win over Pitt on Friday evening in the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Md. Senior guards Bryce Dulin and Shawn Anderson combined for 33 points and 17 rebounds to lead Navy to its first win over an ACC opponent since 1971. Coming off a 16-16 season, Navy was picked third in the 2017-18 Patriot League preseason poll, while Anderson was named to the five-player Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
 
Miami next plays host to Florida A&M Thursday (Nov. 16) at 7 p.m.
