@HurricanesGolf Eighth at #NCAAGolf Championships
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The No. 13-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team had a 13-stroke improvement on Day 2 at the 2017 NCAA Championships, finishing the afternoon 15-over-par (303) to move into eighth place.The Hurricanes’ 13-stroke improvement was tied for the eighth-best single day improvement in the tournament field and propelled Miami four spots up in the standings. Miami finished the day with 47 pars and 14 birdies.
Over the course of two rounds, Miami’s 20 birdies rank second among the 24 teams.
The tournament, hosted by Northern Illinois University, is being held at the par 72, 6,343-yard Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course.
Miami opened the day in the morning wave of tee times and by the time it finished its round the Hurricanes were 15th. However, Miami would jump up seven spots once the afternoon wave of pairings came into the clubhouse.
Sophomore Dewi Weber is the top Hurricane individual after two rounds, as she is tied for 21st (152). Weber’s second round 73 featured three birdies, 10 pars and one eagle.
Miami is one of just seven teams in the field to record an eagle.
Freshman Renate Grimstad is tied for 24th (153) thanks to a second round score of 76. Grimstad tallied three birdies and 10 pars during Day 2 competition. Grimstad closed out the day on a high note, as she went one-under-par over the final five holes.
Fellow freshman Filippa Moork also turned in a strong second-day performance, as she carded a score of three-over-par, 75. Moork is currently tied for 47th with a two-round total of 163.
Senior Delfina Acosta and freshman Macarena Aguilera round out the Hurricanes’ top five, as they are tied for 98th and tied for 114th, respectively.
Miami returns to the course for Round 3 at 1:40 p.m. ET on Monday. Golf Channel will provide live tournament coverage from at 4-8 p.m. ET.
The stroke play portion of the championship will conclude on Monday with the individual medalist being determined following the 54 holes. The field will then be cut to the top eight teams, which will advance to the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Northwestern holds the team lead with a score of 599. Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho is the individual leader with a two-round tally of 144.
