CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head soccer Mary-Frances Monroe announced Tuesday the team’s slate for the upcoming 2017 season.
The Hurricanes are set to play 18 regular season matches and two exhibition affairs, nine of which will come on their home field at Cobb Stadium.
Miami’s schedule includes five outings against teams that ended last season in the top 25 of the NSCAA rankings, including four that finished in the top 15. Three of those contests will be in Coral Gables.
“We are excited about our competitive schedule for the fall,” Monroe said. “The team has set very high goals and we can’t wait for August to be here.”
The Hurricanes will begin play with an exhibition game at UCF (Aug. 9, 7 p.m.) and then will return home to take on the Florida Institute of Technology (Aug. 14, 7 p.m.) in the preseason finale.
Miami begins regular season action at Cobb Stadium versus St. Francis (PA) (Aug. 18, 7 p.m.), followed by five away matches in a row.
The Hurricanes play on the road at FIU (Aug. 20, 6 p.m.), Miami (OH) (Aug. 25, 7 p.m.) and Cincinnati (Aug. 27, 1 p.m.) in their final matches of the opening month.
They conclude their road swing against Yale (Sept. 1, 7 p.m.) and Quinnipiac (Sept. 3, noon) in Connecticut.
Miami wraps up non-conference play by hosting the College of Charleston (Sept. 8, 7 p.m.) and Stetson (Sept. 10, 1 p.m.) at Cobb Stadium.
ACC action gets underway for the Hurricanes with a trio of road matches. Monroe’s side begins conference play by playing at Syracuse (Sept. 15, 3:30 p.m.), Virginia (Sept. 21, 7 p.m.) and Louisville (Sept. 24, 1 p.m.).
Following that trio of matches, Miami will play three straight contests at home. The Hurricanes will cap the month versus Clemson (Sept. 29, 7 p.m.) and then face North Carolina (Oct. 5, 7 p.m.) and Boston College (Oct. 8, noon) to begin the last month of the regular season.
Following a road tilt at Duke (Oct. 12, 7 p.m.), the Hurricanes host Pittsburgh (Oct. 19, 7 p.m.) and Notre Dame (Oct. 22, noon), with the latter match serving as senior day.
Miami will conclude the regular season when it travels to meet Wake Forest (Oct. 26, 7 p.m.).
The Hurricanes welcomes back 20 of 24 players from a team that went 10-8-1 (5-5-0 ACC) in 2016 and set a program record for conference victories and fewest goals allowed (16).
“I am proud of what this team accomplished last year,” Monroe said. “We have many returning players coming back who will continue to make an impact this fall.”
Miami is unbeaten through the first four matches of its spring slate, which resumes at home April 13 at 8:30 a.m., against the Peruvian U-21 National Team.
All matches at Cobb Stadium, in both the spring and the fall, are free to the public.
