CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman Bruce Brown has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team, Commissioner John Swofford announced Wednesday.

Brown, from Boston, Mass., is majoring in sports administration at Miami. In his first season with the Hurricanes, he has posted the program’s second triple-double and a pair of double-doubles. He has been the ACC Rookie of the Week twice. In ACC games, he is averaging 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks in 33.6 minutes per game. He is hitting 46.5 percent of this shots, including 38.5 percent from long range, and he connects on 73.5 percent of his shots at the line.

In 70 total minutes against No. 9/6 North Carolina and No. 10/11 Duke, Brown tallied 55 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, four blocks and four steals. He had 30 points, five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 34 minutes against UNC and 25 points, four assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 36 minutes against the Blue Devils. Against Duke, Brown shot 11 for 18 and had four assists, while his teammates shot just 11 for 40 with four assists combined. Brown scored or had the assist on nine of Miami’s first 11 field goals.

Brown joins teammate Davon Reed on the All-ACC Academic Team. Reed was honored as the Skip Prosser Award recipient, presented annually to the top scholar-athlete in ACC men’s basketball.

To be eligible for consideration for the ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
