Miami Opens Play at the Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 14-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team is tied for third with Michigan after it fired an opening round score of 290 during day one competition at the 2017 Hurricane Invitational.The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,150-yard Biltmore Golf Course.  

Senior Delfina Acosta led the way for the Hurricanes as she carded a round one score of 71. She is currently tied for seventh. 

Acosta’s Day 1 score of 71 was her lowest round of the spring season. The Argentina native came out firing as she tallied a pair of birdies and one eagle on the front nine. Acosta would then go on to post par on seven of her final nine holes.

Sophomore Dewi Weber also turned in a solid opening round as she posted an even par round of 72 and is tied for 12th. Weber bogeyed the final three holes on the front nine, but responded on the back nine as she tallied a pair of birdies and an eagle.

Weber has now tallied 12 rounds of 72-or-below this season. The Netherlands native has competed in 17 rounds overall.

Freshman Macarena Aguilera also turned in a strong first round score as she carded a Day 1 total of even par, 72. Aguilera is currently tied for 12th.

Louisville owns the overall team lead after it shot an opening round total of 286.

Louisville’s Olivia Cason, Northwestern’s Hannah Kim and Barry’s Tilda Larsson are in a three-way tie for first place after they shot a first round score of three-under-par, 69.

Day 2 action resumes tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. Teams will tee off on holes No. 1 and No. 10. Live stats during Day 2 competition can be found by visiting GolfStat.com.
