@HurricanesGolf Shares UCF Challenge Title with Clemson
ORLANDO – The No. 14-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team captured its second tournament title of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, as it shared the UCF Challenge title with Clemson.
The Hurricanes posted a three-round score of 850 and carded a final-day total of 283.
“I’m so proud of this team,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “The girls played great. Everyone of my players can shoot between 66 and 69 on any given day and that’s huge.”
With the tournament win, the Hurricanes finished in the top five for the 34th time and won their fifth tournament under the direction of Rizzo.
The tournament victory also marked the fifth straight time this season Miami has finished in the top three.
The three-day event was being held at the par 72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Freshman Renate Grimstad paced the Hurricanes, tying for third. Her finish was a season best and was her second top-10 finish this year. The Norway native tied for sixth last week at the Florida Challenge.
Grimstad finished the tournament with a three-round total of 208. She closed the tournament on a high note, posting a final round 67.
Fellow freshman Filippa Moork also finished in the top 10, as she tied for seventh. Moork closed the three-day event with a score of 210. The Sweden native was model of consistency for the Canes throughout the tournament, logging three straight rounds of 70.
Mississippi State’s Chieh Jessica Peng captured medalist honors after she fired a three-round score of 205.
The Canes return to action in New Orleans on Feb. 19-21 for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
