@CanesRowing Opens at ACC Rowing Championship
CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami rowing program had three boats compete on the opening day of the 2015 ACC Rowing Championship.
The Hurricanes raced in the 1V8+, 2V8+ and V4+ categories, competing against Boston College, Duke, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia and the host Clemson Tigers. This year’s conference regatta marks the 13th time that Clemson has hosted the ACC Rowing Championships on Lake Hartwell.
“All three boats raced hard and are looking to build on today’s row as they prepare for tomorrow,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said.
The Canes hit the water Friday evening for heats. The 1V4+ was the first boat to race, posting a time of 7:51.5 while competing in Heat 1 against Virginia, Louisville, Clemson and North Carolina. The 1V4+ will race in the petite final beginning at 8:55 a.m. Saturday.
Miami’s 2V8+ posted a time of 6:54.6 in Heat 1, while racing against Virginia, Louisville, Clemson and North Carolina. The 2V8+ will race in the petite final beginning at 9:20 a.m. Saturday.
The 1V8+ also faced off against Virginia, Louisville, Clemson and North Carolina, posting a time of 6:38.6 in Heat 1. The 1V8+ will race in the petite final beginning at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
“We have focused all year on trying to make small improvement each day and in each race,” Sanderson said. “All the athletes are focused on trying to finish the season with their best effort.”
The Championship finals begin on Saturday morning, May 16, at 8:05 a.m., with the Petite Final of the Third Varsity Eight, and concludes with the running of the Grand Final of the First Varsity Eight at 9:35 a.m.
The Championship finals will be streamed live in its entirety by ESPN3 beginning at 8 a.m. with Dean Linke and Steve Pritzker providing the play-by-play and analysis.
