Miami Finishes Runner-Up at Hurricane Invite
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team placed second at the 2015 Hurricane Invitational Wednesday afternoon. The Hurricanes posted a three-round tournament total of 865.
This week’s event was held at the par 71, 6,070-yard Biltmore Golf Course.
Miami’s runner-up finish marked the third time this season the Hurricanes have placed in the top five.
“I’m really proud of the girls today,” said head coach Patti Rizzo. “We’re really happy to get second. The girls are getting better and better every week and I think we showed that today. They really hung in there today and they did a great job.”
The Hurricanes entered the final round 13 shots behind Northwestern and just missed overtaking the Wildcats for the team title. Miami finished just six shots behind the Wildcats, which finished the tournament with a three-round total of 859.
The Hurricanes’ final round score of 290 was tied for second lowest among the 16-team field.
Junior Kailey Walsh (Boca Raton, Fla.) tied for second with a three-round total of 214 to pace the Hurricanes. The Miami junior fired a final round score of two-under-par, 69.
Her final round score of 69 marked the first time she had shot under 70 this spring. In addition, Walsh tallied six birdies on the afternoon, including four on the front nine.
Senior Rika Park (Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan) and sophomore Daniela Darquea (Quito, Ecuador) also turned in strong rounds for the Hurricanes as they tied for 13th (218) and 18th (219), respectively.
Daytona State’s Tiffany Chan claimed medalist honors as she finished the event one-under-par (212). Chan was the only competitor to finish the tournament under par.
