@MiamiWBB Continues to Garner AP Poll Votes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After defeating fourth-ranked Notre Dame by 15 winning at Virginia Tech last week, the University of Miami women’s basketball team began receiving votes the newest AP Poll.

A 1-1 week this time around has kept the Hurricanes on the list, as Miami beat Clemson by 37, 79-42, at the BankUnited Center and lost on the road at No. 16/14 Duke.

Miami received double digit points in the AP Poll voting for the second straight week and remain listed by the voters as one of the top 35 teams in the country.

The Hurricanes are 14-4 on the season and are in a four-way tie for second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 4-1 record.

Miami has some great company near the top of the ACC standings, as all three teams it is tied with, as well as first place Louisville, are ranked in the top 20 of the AP Poll.

The Hurricanes have won 12 of their last 14 games and the 12 victories have come by an average margin of 21.5 points. All four of Miami’s ACC wins have been by 15-plus and the average margin of victory has been 22.5 points in conference action.

Led by 32 points from sophomore guard Adrienne Motley, the espnW National Player of the Week and ACC Player of the Week on January 12, Miami took down Notre Dame 78-63 Jan. 8 at the BankUnited Center. Redshirt senior forward Jassany Williams posted a program record nine blocks in the game.

The Miami win snapped Notre Dame’s streak of 61 straight victories over unranked opponents and ended the Fighting Irish’s NCAA record-tying 30-game road winning streak.

Miami will be back in action at the BankUnited Center Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7:00 p.m. when the Hurricanes host the Virginia Cavaliers (13-5, 3-2 ACC).
