The Game
Miami opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at home on Jan. 3 when the Hurricanes face No. 3 Virginia at 5:30 p.m. in the BankUnited Center.
The Series
Miami is 10-6 in the all-time series against Virginia, which dates back to the 1965-66 season. The Canes are 6-0 at home against the Cavaliers, 3-5 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites. Virginia won the last matchup with Miami, defeating the Canes, 65-40, on Feb. 26, 2014 at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.

Past ACC Champions to Battle in Coral Gables
On Jan. 3 the past two ACC championship teams and ACC coaches of the year are facing off in Coral Gables when the 2013 league champion Miami battles the 2014 conference champion, Virginia.
According to the ACC: For the first time in 19 years, the ACC has had four different champions over a four-year period – Virginia’s ACC championship in 2014 followed titles by Miami (2013), Florida State (2012) and Duke (2011). Only once in league history has there been a five-year run of different teams crowned ACC champion and that occurred between 1957 and 1961 when North Carolina (1957), Maryland (1958), NC State (1959), Duke (1960) and Wake Forest (1961) won the ACC Tournament.
Miami in ACC Openers
The Canes are 3-7 in ACC openers since joining the league for the 2004-05 season. UM is 1-5 on the road and 2-2 at home in ACC opening games. The Canes have started ACC play at home for two straight seasons after being on the road four-straight from 2009-10 to 2012-13.
Miami faced Virginia in the ACC opener in Coach L’s first season at The U, the 2011-12 campaign. The Canes lost that game, 52-51 in Charlottesville.
Coach L Ties to the ACC
Coach Jim Larrañaga was an assistant coach at Virginia from 1979-1986, under the leadership of Terry Holland. In those seven seasons, Larrañaga helped the Cavaliers to five NCAA appearances: Final Four twice, Elite Eight once, Sweet 16 once and Round of 64 once, as well as two NIT appearances, including the Championship and Quarterfinal round.

Coach Jim Larrañaga is four wins away from 550 career victories and three wins away from 300 conference victories. He started the 2014-15 season with a 536-370 overall and 297-185 conference record in 30 years as a head coach.
Cruz Uceda To Debut For Canes Against Notre Dame
Junior Ivan Cruz Uceda, a 6-10 forward, will debut for the Hurricanes on Jan. 17 at Notre Dame, after being ruled ineligible for 50 percent of Miami’s games in the 2014-15 season. He is ineligible due to an NCAA rule that requires a student-athlete to enroll in college one year after high school graduation.
Rodriguez on Robertson & Cousy Award Watch Lists
Junior PG Angel Rodriguez is one of 36 players listed on the watch list for the 2015 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award and was one of 24 players named to the early-season watch list for the 2014-15 Oscar Robertson Trophy for national player of the year, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced Nov. 24.
