CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three Miami Hurricanes were among those recognized with All-ACC Academic honors, the conference office announced Thursday.
Freshman Bryan Garcia, senior Javi Salas and sophomore Thomas Woodrey each earned nods on the All-Academic team. The honor was the second of Salas’ career and the first for both Garcia and Woodrey.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Salas, a recent inductee into Iron Arrow Honor Society – the highest possible honor to be attained at the University of Miami – graduated with a degree in accounting this past spring. A Coral Gables, Fla., native, Salas was drafted in the 10th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and has embarked on a professional baseball career since graduation.
Garcia, who was named to the All-ACC second team after a dominant freshman season, is working on a degree in accounting. The Miami native was named a third-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA) and picked up Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
One of Miami’s top performers out of the bullpen, Woodrey is working towards a degree in finance. The Lighthouse Point, Fla., native finished with 31 appearances out of the bullpen totaling 49.2 innings in 2014, and recorded a 2.54 ERA with 36 strikeouts.
