@MiamiWBB Visits Sylvester Cancer Center
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s basketball team visited the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center on Wednesday.
Head coach Katie Meier along with nine players and assistant coaches packed on the Metrorail outside the BankUnited Center and headed to the health district.
“Today was an amazingly special experience for our team and our staff,” Meier said. “It’s a great opportunity to share our blessings and meet wonderful people who are showing such courage.”
Upon arrival, the team entered Alex’s Place, the center for treatment of children.
The players signed posters, exchanged telling jokes and played on a Nerf basketball goal.
“This was an extraordinary and humbling experience,” senior co-captain Maria Brown said. “We were welcomed with smiles and warm spirits! This was an opportunity that I was very grateful to be a part of!
Following the stint in Alex’s Place, the team went upstairs to the in-patient unit and took photos, visited with patients and signed more autographs.
“As the holiday season approaches, we just all try to get a little bit more humble and a lot more grateful for the blessings that we have in our lives,” Meier added.
The Hurricanes get back in action on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they welcome Coppin State to the BankUnited Center.
