Monday ProCanes Report: Veterans Prove Clutch

Football

The Monday ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. As they have managed to do all season, veteran wideouts Andre Johnson (Houston), Santana Moss (Washington) and Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis) came up big in Week 16, combining for 14 catches, 204 yards and two touchdowns. Wayne’s fourth-quarter score helped clinch the upstart Colts a win over Kansas City and a well-deserved playoff berth.

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) – five catches, 81 yards, one touchdown
Indy’s 12th-year wideout has served as one of rookie quarterback Andrew Luck’s most reliable weapons in 2012, and he played a key role in the team’s comeback win over Kansas City. Wayne, who caught five catches, scored the gamewinning touchdown in the fourth quarter to help seal an expected playoff berth for a young Colts team. The New Orleans, La., native, who helped Luck break the single-season rookie passing record Sunday, ranks sixth in the NFL with 1,315 yards and fifth in receptions with 102.

Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) – seven catches, 97 yards
Johnson recorded his 800th career reception in Sunday’s loss to Minnesota, reaching the impressive milestone in the second-fewest games of any player in league history (Marvin Harrison). The 10th-year wide receiver built on another terrific season with a seven-catch performance, eclipsing the 100-catch plateau for the fourth time in his career. The Miami, Fla., native, who has the fourth-most catches of any active player, now ranks third in the NFL with 1,457 receiving yards and fifth with 100 receptions.

Santana Moss (Washington Redskins) – two catches, 26 yards, one touchdown
Washington’s veteran wideout had delivered multiple highlight-reel catches during rookie Robert Griffin III’s debut campaign, and he added another one to the tape in Sunday’s win over Philadelphia. Moss hauled in a picture-perfect 22-yard strike from RGIII in the corner of the endzone, making sure to tap both feet before falling out of bounds. With his eighth touchdown reception of the season, Moss extended the ProCanes’ streak to 10 consecutive weeks with a score.
